Informed Americans support diplomatic effort on Iran

As the U.S. and five other global powers reached an initial agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the easing of some international sanctions, Great Decisions participants across the U.S. have supported the effort.

A whopping 73 percent of respondents in the National Opinion Ballot survey conducted by the Foreign Policy Association said agreed that "diplomatic dialogue" -- the kind that has been taking place over the past year -- "is the best course of action" on Iran.  Most respondents, 84 percent, said military action would be the worst route to take.

Tens of thousands of Americans participate annually in the nation's largest discussion program on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.  Participants were polled about their opinions on the eight foreign policy topics covered in the 2013 series.  The full results can be read in the National Opinion Ballot Report, which is distributed annually to policymakers in Washington by the FPA.
