Event Description
The United Nations continues to be the world's most influential international forum, but the path to employment within its multiple bodies and programs is often a challenging task.
In this seminar you will learn:
• How to understand the various bodies of the U.N. system: What are they and which are currently hiring?
• Realities vs. misconceptions: What degree do I need? What are the requirements? What can I expect to earn?
• What U.N. employers are currently recruiting for: Resume & cover letter tips, networking advice, and application guidance
• How to prepare for the UN Secretariat Young Professionals Program
• About training programs, internships, consultancies, & other non-traditional points of entry into U.N. employment

Katarina Holm-Didio - Instructor
Cross-cultural Trainer. Career and Job Search ConsultantKatarina, a Cross-cultural Trainer, Freelance writer and Career Consultant, has over 13 years of experience global HR, cross-cultural training, international and strategic job search.
Her experience includes working with major relocation service providers, the United Nations Secretariat, the UN Development Program, and Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and working in adult education in Finland.
Katarina grew up in Finland and is fluent in Swedish and Finnish in addition to English and some French. Her areas of expertise are cross-cultural competence and managing transitions; strategic job search and career management; working and living in the US and in Finland and the Scandinavian countries.
She has a Masters Degree in Social Science; Certifications in: Adult Career Planning and Placement; Cross-Cultural Competence; Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest inventory. She is currently finalizing her MA in Mental Health Counseling with a focus on cross-cultural issues in counseling.
She is monthly columnist for a newspaper in Finland, writes her own blog and is a board member of Families in Global Transition (FIGT). She has presented at the FIGT and SIETAR conferences about Cross-cultural Counseling and Finnish Culture.

Ambassador Shola Omoregie - Guest Speaker
President/CEO, Africa Peace Support, LLCAmbassador Shola Omoregie is founder and Chief Operating Officer of the Africa Peace Support, LLC, an international consulting firm with a focus on political and security consultancy. A former career diplomat at the United Nations, Ambassador Omoregie is an expert on the United Nations Security Council and peace operations having had a dedicated and distinguished service at the United Nations spanning over three decades. From January to March 2010, he led an International Team of Consultants to review ten African Union Political Liaison Offices/Missions in Africa. He currently moderates United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) training in Multilateral Diplomacy. He is widely travelled, and has made presentations before the United Nations Security Council, and at international conferences, meetings and seminars, covering issues of national and international security.
Ambassador Omoregie is married with six children and was educated at the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria where he earned a B.Sc. (Honors) in Psychology. He is the author of a new book, Witness to Transformation – My Years at the United Nations and co-edited Nigeria and the United States - Twists and Turns through Five Decades. He is also the publisher of Africa Peace and Security Monitor, a quarterly political and security analytical newsletter.

Dulcie Leimbach - Guest Speaker
Founder and editor of PassBlue; NYT editor and writer; Editor of UNA's InterDependentDulcie Leimbach is the founder and editor of PassBlue (www.passblue.com ), a Web publication that covers the United Nations; she is also a fellow of the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies at the Graduate Center of CUNY. From 2008 to 2011, she was the publications director at the United Nations Association of the USA, where she edited its flagship magazine, The InterDependent, and migrated it online in 2010. She was also the senior editor of UNA's annual book, "A Global Agenda: Issues Before the UN."
Before UNA, Leimbach was an editor at The New York Times for more than 20 years, where she worked on most news desks and wrote for many sections of the paper, including the Magazine, Book Review, Op-Ed, Arts & Leisure and Style. She has been a fellow at Yaddo and taught news reporting at Hofstra University. She lives with her family in Brooklyn, N.Y.
