Spring Screening Series: "The Bread Winner," a documentary film about one boy's struggle to provide for his family in war-torn Afghanistan.
Afghanistan World Foundation Board Member, singer Natalie Cole on hand to deliver brief remarks about the plight of women in Afghanistan.
About the film:
"The Bread Winner" is a story about Farouk, a young boy responsible for taking care of his family at the tender age of nine. Farouk's heartrending story is emblematic of the situation faced by the people of Afghanistan who have endured the devastation wrought by decades of war, weak state institutions, and the challenges of state-building. The documentary sheds light on the severe problems facing Afghanistan today and highlights areas of critical need that require immediate attention from the government as well as the international community. "The Bread Winner" personalizes Afghanistan's struggle, and Farouk is a symbol of the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of ordinary Afghans who face extraordinary challenges.
