The Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), also known as Chatham House, is one of the world's leading institutes for the analysis of international issues. RIIA is membership-based and aims to help individuals and organizations to be at the forefront of developments in an ever-changing and increasingly complex world.

Chatham House

Founded in 1920, and based at Chatham House in London, the Institute works to stimulate debate and research on political, business, security and other key issues in the international arena.

The Chatham House Rule, famous worldwide for facilitating free speech and confidentiality at meetings, originated here.

The government of the Institute is vested in the Council, whose Members are elected by the Institute's Members.

Support Chatham House

Due to external support the Institute is crucially able to remain free of all government and political interests. Our funding comes from charitable grants, corporate and other donations, membership subscriptions and revenue from the Institute's wholly owned trading subsidiary Chatham House Enterprises Limited.
