This unprecedented agreement spawned the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—eight objectives to accelerate human development and attain a more peaceful world by 2015.
NetAid Tells G8: Leave No Child in the World Behind
Along with Rep. James McGovern (D-MA), schoolchildren from Savannah, and committed speakers from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Millennium Development Goals Campaign, NetAid told leaders from the world's richest nations that “something must be done” to end the cycle of extreme poverty through education.
Today, more than 100 million children are denied access to education—a key to ending global poverty, fighting the AIDS pandemic, and reducing maternal and infant death.
NetAid Report: Invest in Today's Youth for a Better Tomorrow
NetAid has issued a report recommending that efforts to increase American support for international development focus on young people. The report, Learning for Change: Strategies to Build a Domestic Constituency for International Development, examines efforts for securing leadership in the fight against global poverty.
The report concludes that large-scale, innovative education programs designed specifically for young people can best mobilize public support for policies that help poor countries tackle the toughest problems, such as poverty, access to education and AIDS.
"Without Education, You'll Never Make It"
Her head piled high with a colorful wrap, Juliet Chilengi arrived in the U.S. for the first time in her life, to speak at NetAid's “Leave No Child in the World Behind” event in Savannah, Georgia, calling on world leaders to make Education for All a reality.
Juliet is the founder and director of New Horizons, a home for AIDS-affected children where education is given a high priority.
Focus on MDG 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
To make the fulfillment of the Goals a reality, Goal 8 must be put into practice. Partnerships much be implemented across all segments of society. Next month NetAid will highlight the power of the individual, using creativity and dedication, to make a real difference for people who are living in extreme poverty.
