Starting a Discussion Group

Discover...Discuss...Decide

Developed by the Foreign Policy Association, the Great Decisions Discussion Program is the oldest and largest grass-roots world affairs education program of its kind in the country.

It is the core of FPA's civic outreach efforts, bringing millions of Americans together in study groups to discuss, debate and learn about foreign policy issues.  Read our Program Guide to learn more.

Interested in joining a Great Decisions discussion group in my area?

Use our interactive map to find out where groups meet near you.  You can search by state or by zip code.

What do you need to start your own Great Decisions discussion group?

To lead your own discussion group, a good leader does not have to be an expert on any one topic, but is able to keep the group focused and the discussion organized.  Need help?  Download our free Program Guide to get suggestions for leading a successful disucssion.

Read about how people around the country have organized their own discussion groups.

Because the Great Decisions program is flexible, there are many approaches for organizing discussions about international issues.

FPA has put together a series of articles in the "Great Decisions Across the Nation" series to illustrate how different individuals, groups or organizations participate in Great Decisions.
