Event Description

Please join the Foreign Policy Association for a panel on the Economic Outlook for the U.S. and the world for 2024. The panel will feature experts from the financial sectors to discuss the potential shocks to the global economy for 2024 as well as the economies impact on the upcoming U.S. Presidential Elections. This panel will be held on Thursday, January 25th, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at The Century Association, located at 7 West 43rd Street. 

We will be joined by Marc Chandler, Chief Market Strategist at Bannockburn Global Forex; Lisa Shalett, Chief Investment Officer at Morgan Stanley; Cameron Dawson, Chief Investment Officer at NewEdge Wealth; and Robert Sockin, Global Economist at Citi. The event will feature a lecture from 6:00pm to 7:00pm followed by a reception.

Event Speakers

    • Marc Chandler - Speaker
      Chief Market Strategist, Bannockburn Global Forex

      Marc Chandler has been covering the global capital markets for more than 30 years, including stints as the global head of currency strategy for both HSBC and Brown Brothers Harriman. Chandler recently joined Bannockburn Global Forex as a Managing Director and Chief Market Strategist in 2018. A prolific writer and speaker, Chandler appears regularly in the financial media. He is often quoted in the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Bloomberg, and the Washington Post, among others. Marc also provides his insights and commentary on the markets on the most widely watched financial news channels, including CNBC, Bloomberg TV, CNN, and Fox Business.

      Marc’s first book, Making Sense of the Dollar, was published by Bloomberg Press in 2009 and received a Bronze Award from Independent Publishers. Chandler's second book, Political Economy of Tomorrow, was published in February 2017. Chandler is also an honorary fellow of the Foreign Policy Association and has been named a Business Visionary by Forbes. Currently, Chandler has taught at New York University Center for Global Affairs, where he is an associate professor, and Fordham's Gabelli School of Business. He is also an honorary visiting professor at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

    • Cameron Dawson - Speaker
      Chief Investment Officer, NewEdge Wealth

      As Chief Investment Officer, Cameron helps lead the development of NewEdge Wealth’s investment themes, strategies, and market views, while also working closely with the firm’s advisors and clients.

      Prior to joining NewEdge Wealth, Cameron was the Chief Market Strategist at Fieldpoint Private Securities and a Senior Equity Analyst at Bank of America. Throughout her career, she has developed extensive experience in macroeconomics and implementing forward-thinking investment themes and asset allocation strategies. She is widely known for her differentiated and thoughtful financial commentary and frequently appears on Bloomberg, CNBC, and Fox Business, among many others. Additionally, Cameron is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) and a former board member of the CFA Society® of Orlando. A Florida native, Cameron earned her bachelor’s degree and MBA from Rollins College in Orlando.

    • Lisa Shalett - Speaker
      Chief Investment Officer, Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley

      Lisa Shalett is Chief Investment Officer and Head of Wealth Management Investment Resources for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and a member of both the Global Investment Committee and the Wealth Management Operating Committee. She works to develop portfolio solutions that leverage the firm’s strategic and tactical asset allocation advice to meet client goals delivered through both scaled and customized solutions. As part of her role, Lisa leads the development of all asset allocation models, global investment due diligence and portfolio analytics. She also has responsibility for managing the Global Investment Committee’s models and Outsourced Chief Investment Office mandates, which collectively have more than $100 billion in assets under management. In addition, Lisa is responsible for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management thought leadership and publishes special reports on topics of importance for practitioners and clients.

      Prior to joining the firm in September 2013, Lisa served as chief investment officer of Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. Previously, she held several senior roles at AllianceBernstein during her 18-year tenure with the firm, including chairman and chief executive officer of Sanford C. Bernstein, LLC, and served as chief investment officer and head of Alliance Growth Equities. Lisa holds a dual Sc.B. degree in applied mathematics and economics from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She is a Henry Crown fellow of the Aspen Institute and a founding member of the Financial Fellowship.

    • Robert Sockin - Speaker
      Director, Global Economic Research, Citigroup

      Robert Sockin joined Citigroup as a Global Economist in June 2022. Robert previously worked at Citi as an economist from 2011 to 2014. He has extensive experience in both financial markets and economic policy. Most recently, Robert was a Senior Economist at SPX Capital covering the US and Canadian economies. Robert also worked as an economist at UBS, a policy advisor at the US Treasury Department, and started out his career researching global trade in the International Finance Division at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. In addition to being cited in policy reports and academic papers, Robert’s work has been covered in major media outlets including The Financial Times and Wall Street Journal. Robert received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and his master’s degree in economics from New York University.
