      Former Prime Minister of Italy and Vice President of the Convention on the Future of Europe

      H.E. Giuliano Amato has served his country in numerous capacities, including two stints as Prime Minister of Italy.

       

      Most recently, with Giscand d'Estaing, he played a key role in fashioning the European Union's Constitution. Mr. Amato has enjoyed a distinguished career in the law and is currently the Global Law Professor at the New York University Law School.

       

      Born in Turin on May 13, 1938, but raised in Tuscany, Giuliano Amato studied law at the University of Pisa, where he graduated in 1960. He received a Master's degree in Comparative Law School of the Columbia University in 1963.

       

      After teaching at the Universities of Modena, Peugia and Florence, he was Full Professor of Italian and Comparative Constitutional Law at the University of Rome, School of Political Science, from 1975 to 1997. He is a member of the Italian Senate.
